To cultivate garlic, plant cloves in well-drained soil with plenty of sunlight, about 6 inches apart. Plant in fall for a summer harvest. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Mulch to retain moisture and control weeds. Harvest when the tops turn yellow and dry.
