The Old Lighthouse Bristow Hotel is situated in the picturesque region of Kerala, renowned as God’s own country, specifically in the prominent tourist hub of Fort Kochi. This heritage site is recognized as one of the top fifty destinations globally. The hotel enjoys a prime location directly on Fort Kochi beach, enveloped by lush greenery and the magnificent Arabian Sea, making it an ideal setting.
The Old Lighthouse mast and the bungalow known as Bristow House were constructed between 1927 and 1928. Sir Robert Bristow, a distinguished member of the Royal Society of Arts, significantly influenced the design and architecture of this British-style heritage building, where he resided during his time in Fort Kochi, Cochin. Following the departure of the British from India, the Indian Government repurposed the Bristow House as the official residence for port officials and personnel from the Indian Navy and Air Force. However, in the 1980s, the Government vacated the premises, leading to a decline in the building’s condition due to insufficient maintenance.
In December 2006, the Bristow House was leased to Suvira Energy after a competitive bidding process. Vikram Ghorpade, the proprietor of Suvira Energy and an enthusiast for the restoration of heritage sites, dedicated considerable effort to restore the former splendor of the Old Lighthouse and the Bristow House. Today, the Bristow House is recognized as one of the premier properties in Fort Kochi, Kerala, and has been renamed the Old Lighthouse Bristow Hotel. The ancient trees and the lighthouse mast stand as testaments to the magnificent vessels that navigate past the property, enhancing the experience for our esteemed guests who choose this location as their home away from home during their vacations in Cochin, often returning to relive the enchantment of their holiday.
