Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells in the bone marrow. Plasma cells are an important part of the body’s immune system, and they produce antibodies to help fight infections. When a person has multiple myeloma, these cancerous plasma cells multiply and crowd out healthy cells, leading to a weakened immune system, anemia, bone fractures, and other symptoms.
